In the 1830s, as Jamaica’s plantation economy faced a severe labor shortage, German settlers were invited to the island under schemes designed to supplement the workforce. One of the most notable settlements was Seaford Town, established in 1835 with the arrival of over 300 German immigrants. Though their original role was to support agricultural production, these settlers soon became part of Jamaica’s diverse social fabric.
